Fit Like: Brad Pitt – The Fight Club Workout

by Jordan on March 15, 2010

Most people know the movie Fight Club, and if you do not you better watch it now or turn in your penis!  Brad Pitt plays Tyler Durden and is known for his instability and immovable stance as an agent of chaos throughout the movie. From his star-shaped abs to his shredded arms and shoulders, he is borderline Spartan.  He has the six pack, the defined arms, and the killer legs.  How did he do it?  What is his secret?  Well, just like the Cam Gigandet article, I am going to tell you.

FIGHT CLUB

The film was directed by David Fincher and stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter. Norton plays the unnamed protagonist, an “everyman” who is discontented with his white-collar job in American society. He forms a “fight club” with soap salesman Tyler Durden, played by Pitt, and becomes embroiled in a relationship with him and a dissolute woman, Marla Singer, played by Carter.

THE WORKOUT

The first rule of the workout: you do not talk about the workout.  The second rule of the workout: you do not talk about the workout.  He performed 3 sets per exercise and used 60 second rest periods in between sets.  Pitt reportedly used a weight that would allow for 15 reps with proper form, where failure would be reached on the last repetition (body weight exercises were done for slightly more reps, however). When executing any workout that pushes you to muscle failure (when you start to twitch and your body just gives up), it is imperative that you distract yourself from the burn, but also focus on your form. I know this sounds contradictory, but you will avoid injury while also reducing pain.

Monday – Chest

3 sets– 75 push ups
3 sets – bench press – 25, 15, 8 reps (165, 195, 225)
3 sets – nautilus press (80, 100, 130)
3 sets – incline press (80, 100, 130)
3 sets – pec deck machine (60, 70, 80)

Tuesday – Back

3 sets– 25 pull ups
3 sets – seated rows (75, 80, 85)
3 sets – lat pull downs (135, 150, 165)
3 sets – t bar rows (80, 95, 110)

Wednesday – Shoulders

3 sets – arnold press (55, 55, 55)
3 sets – laterals (30, 30, 30)
3 sets – front raises (25, 25, 25)

Thursday – Biceps & Triceps

3 sets – preacher curl machine (60, 80, 95)
3 sets – ez curls cable (50, 65, 80)
3 sets – hammer curls (30, 45, 55)
3 sets – push downs (70, 85, 100)

Friday – Cardio

Treadmill – 60 minutes at 80-90% MHR

Saturday – Cardio

Treadmill – 60 minutes at 80-90% MHR

Sunday – Rest

50 reps – Sleeping with models and hottest women in Hollywood

THE DIET

When you have a healthy and abundant diet with the right amount of protein, carbs, etc it makes it easier to obtain the body you desire.  Now, Brad Pitt has the body you want because it gets him laid.  For his Fight Club role, Pitt took on a very strict and consistent diet eating six (6) small meals a day which included a Whey Protein Powder and on occasion some protein bars, no other supplements were used by Pitt, however much of his nutrition came from whole foods high in protein like Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Lean Meat, Eggs and Cottage Cheese. Carbohydrates were very clean and included whole-wheats and grains, green vegetables, oats and rice cakes, which were then tapered off in his last two meals of the day.

In short: focus on eating as lean and clean as possible (no, this does not mean getting a salad at McDonald’s or eating at Subway). The diet is just as critical to getting chiseled, so stay focused! Try cooking – at least your food won’t be loaded with preservatives. Like the workout, the diet requires consistency and meticulous focus.

Breakfast: 6 eggs, 6 whites, 7 yellow and 75g of oatmeal with raisins. Occasionally Pitt would replace the eggs with a Protein Shake if his schedule was tight.

Midmorning snack: Tinned Tuna in Wholewheat Pitta Breads

Lunch: 2 x Chicken Breasts, 75-100g Brown Rice or Pasta and green veggies

Mid-afternoon snack [Pre-Workout]: protein bar or Whey Protein Shake and a Banana

Post Workout: Whey Protein Shake and a Banana

Dinner: Grilled fish or chicken, brown rice or pasta, vegetables, and salad.

Evening Snack: Casein Protein Shake Protein shake or Low Fat Cottage Cheese (Slow Release Protein)

CONCLUSION

This is not an easy workout, however it will give you results fast.  There is nothing special about the cells in Brad Pitt’s body.  If you follow the workout and eat properly, you can develop the same body he has.  Nothing is impossible.  Follow the workout, eat healthy, and get the results.

Brad Pitt’s body type is genetic. Sure, this workout and diet will certainly help you lose weight and increase muscle, but no amount of diet or exercise will actually change your body type.

unbound May 26, 2010 at 8:00 am

Tom – body type is largely a myth. Will you come out looking exactly like Brad Pitt? Of course not. Can you get a body like Brad Pitt? Absolutely. Will you put in the effort and discipline to find out for yourself? Probably not. Will you continue the defeatist talk? Probably.

PIMPIN May 26, 2010 at 2:31 pm

unbound– you just pwned tom.

Fugor May 26, 2010 at 3:18 pm

You like Fight Club. You want a body like Brad Pitt. You write articles about workouts and diets. You’re worse than what Tim Burton did to Alice.

No ab workout?

JJ May 26, 2010 at 6:12 pm

I found this site and realized that my workout is pretty much as the shown here. I don’t have his body, but I surely have improved quickly

Ummm. Genetics isn’t a myth, dumbass. Unbound didn’t pwn anyone he just showed he’s retarded.

Erik May 26, 2010 at 6:47 pm

What about the abs? I don’t see any ab exercise included here. That’s hard to believe.

Judge Judy May 27, 2010 at 3:50 pm

I’ll try this out and get back to you guys in 3 months. If am not sleeping with Angelina Jolie by then, Tom wins. If I am, unbound (and me) win.

Thats pretty awesome. I also found this really shocking, yet entertaining video about a diet coke + mentos + microwave experimnet GONE WRONG video on YouTube. The diet coke and mentos and microwave totally explodes and looks like it sends the guy to his death. You can see the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVPZSK77yTw or by clicking here . Tell me if you think it is real or fake.

Where’s the abdominal training?

c May 27, 2010 at 6:00 pm

this is dumb. lean eating and weight workouts are important, no argument there. but pitt was clearly doing two things to get in shape for this movie; a shitload of abs and a shitload of cardio. to think that he was engaging in some sort of barbaric weight routine to achieve a body like that is asinine. Look at him, does that look like a guy who throws up 225 8 times on his third set? maybe this is the troy workout

Michael B. Mohn May 27, 2010 at 6:25 pm

guys the fact is that whenever you do any rigorous workout like this, your abs are constantly being flexed and worked whether you realize it or not. Ever wonder why you do pull ups yet your abs are sore? There ya go. This certainly is a rigorous celebrity workout, and if you have the balls to take it on, I can guarantee you’ll see results.

Projectfinale May 27, 2010 at 8:53 pm

As Michael said… you should be constantly flexing your abs in every workout. Your abs are the core of your body and to fully reach the levels you want, you need them for every exercise listed above. In my opinion abs are the easiest to build, and they will NATURALLY show up when you diet and slim down. They are already there, they will only look ripped when you lose the extra stomach area though…

TY May 29, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Genetics is not a myth. Body types affect greatly how you look. An endomorphic body type will never look like Brad Pitt. Usually these are the stockier people. now that doesnt mean you can be ripped. You will just be much larger. Ectomorphic, Most likely Pitts type, is the skinnier people. It is actually harder for the skinnier to put on muscle. It is easier to convert fat into muscle than it is to merely make muscle larger

TY May 29, 2010 at 2:44 pm

are not a myth * incorrect grammar , my bad

Andy May 30, 2010 at 10:51 am

Pretty sure it doesn’t matter if you do abs. They don’t get “bigger” like other muscle groups do. They just get stronger. In order for your abs to show through you have to lose that layer of fat on the belly.

Joe May 31, 2010 at 1:18 am

Any guy who works out to gain “muscle” is just trying to make up for two things: Small brain or small dick.

“You are not your fucking khakis!”

christian May 31, 2010 at 3:10 am

this is ridiculous. you completely missed the point of this film you absurd asshole.

Scott May 31, 2010 at 5:49 pm

I noticed that on the diet it says that for breakfast he ate 6 eggs, 6 white and 7 yellow? Can someone explain a little better in detail? does that mean he ate 12 eggs total every morning, 7 of which had the yolk? im pretty confused as you can see so any help would be nice. Did he boil the first 6 eggs and just eat the white? >.< thanks in advance

tim June 1, 2010 at 12:03 pm

6 eggs, 6 whites, 7 yellow ????? wtf does that mean

Ben June 3, 2010 at 12:49 am

What a douche…. what a load of BS. Is this a bit of SEO crap?

Aaron June 3, 2010 at 12:30 pm

Why don’t all you people bitching shut the fuck up and give it a try. This workout is for building muscle fast. If you don’t need it that fast, you can always tone it down.

Really great info here, the 2 cardio days seem really intense to me 90% max heart rate for 60 minutes!? fuckin crazy.

roy June 4, 2010 at 2:35 am

i dunno. Im not claiming to be an expert, and he certainly is strong, but looking at the chest workout alone i would assume he would have to be bigger if he was doing that. But i suppose looks can be deceiving

Kylie June 6, 2010 at 10:42 am

You obviously missed the spirit of Tyler Durden entirely. The scene on the bus where he and Jack look at a Calvin Klein ad with a sculpted himbo-type wearing tighty-whities and remark sarcastically, “Is that what a real man looks like?” The aim was NOT to look good! One guy looked too good and Tyler beat the crap out of him. “I just wanted to destroy something beautiful.”

skagmonkey June 6, 2010 at 1:12 pm

There is no way his chest was that strong but his shoulders were that weak.

3 sets– 75 push ups
3 sets – bench press – 25, 15, 8 reps (165, 195, 225)

but only,

3 sets – arnold press (55, 55, 55)
3 sets – laterals (30, 30, 30)

Makes no sense.

Felipe June 6, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Hey guys could anyone tell me if I can do this workout without machines? Like in the park or somewhere

Required: Enter your name June 8, 2010 at 11:27 am

I was wondering if someone could explain the numbering system?

uh?! June 10, 2010 at 9:34 am

so all of this is irrelevant due to the fact that brad pitt is a vegetarian (and has been since the early 90′s)- therefore, his diet is bull shit and that isnt what he ate- therefore, the rest of this is probably also bull shit.

Total BS June 21, 2010 at 2:14 am

So no sit-ups or any abdominal workout? 30 lb laterals? Horseshit!!!!

lol will you people please stfu. it’s a workout. on. a. website. if it bores you, hit the stumble button. it’ll show you rainbows and shit.

damn man.

Blake Kibby October 1, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Just because Tyler believed that a real man wasn’t model doesn’t mean that he thought buff men were ugly. Models are ugly. The real man fights, is bruised, broken, fends for himself. he doesn’t pose for magazines. He isn’t pristine. And the pretty boy didn’t get beat up BECAUSE he was pretty, he got beat up because the narrator says “I wanted to destroy something beautiful.” Not because it IS beautiful, but for other reasons. Watch the movie, read the book, and stop posting shit like this online.
