So your pad is kickin. You finally managed to find some furniture on craigslist and you’re ready to upgrade from that old tv your dad used to play Atari on. What else would an heir to the throne choose than a sweet HDTV! Before you go out and buy the “top of the line” HDTV (and max out your credit card) here are some things you may want to know about purchasing an HDTV.
SIZE DOES MATTER, BUT TO AN EXTENT
Lets face it… your new apartment/dorm/house may be enough to live in but it is not a penthouse or a mansion. There is no need to buy the 62” model! Ever hear of overkill? Normally 42” will be than enough viewing area for you and your buddies.
THIN IS IN
You know that tv your dad bought a few years ago? Yeah its huge but it also has a huge rear end! Don’t be fooled by the size of the screen, these are usually projection tv’s and don’t have quality pictures, like the LCD and Plasma models of today. Besides, a tv like that would require much more room in your already limited space. The plasma and LCD tv’s are thin and can be wall mounted so they take no floor space and are usually out of harms way when you have your bros over for pong and pretty women.
DO YOU WEAR GLASSES?
Actually, it doesn’t matter if your eyesight is that of a bat or that of a hawk because it has been show that the human eye cannot really distinguish between 720p and 1080p. Go for the 720p, you get the same experience and a cheaper price!
BE PATIENT
Yes you can. First of all, when people get all excited about a product they don’t think straight and spend stupid amounts of money on it (i.e. the iphone when it first came out). Second of all, you can save money once again by buying when there are sales! Your best bets are Black Friday and the week before the Superbowl (surprisingly some of the best deals can be found around this time).
BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS
Most people go to the store with a particular brand name in mind. The leaders are Sony, Samsung and LG. Has anyone heard of Vizio? If you have, congrats you probably don’t need this guide. But if you don’t then I suggest that you look into it. Vizio uses the same parts Sony does, just because they don’t advertise doesn’t make them inferior, aka they are about the same (and surprisingly cheaper). The lesson here… DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Follow these decrees from the Throne and we are sure you will enjoy your new hdtv and have a few more bills to drop on drinks. I mean you already have school loans to pay off why add a credit card to that list! Oh, and when you pick up your fresh new tv be sure to check out these shows!
